Artist Mark Leckey discusses all manner of supernatural possibilities, and his works contain a strange and magical quality juxtaposed with archeological concepts.
He speaks of ‘Stone Tape Theory’ and quasi-scientific theories which have the potential to be true. The concept of this is the speculation that the stone walls of a building possess properties similar to a magnetic tape, and that traumatic events could be ‘recorded’ by the walls themselves. This effect may manifest as hauntings to some, but perhaps we haven’t the found the means to decipher these recordings? To follow this thought into fictioning of a ‘Mythology for Rave’, I wonder perhaps, if the collective heightened and emotional energy present at a Rave might be absorbed by stones walls capturing its spirit.
