The Museum of Rave
This series of sculptures draws comparisons between ancient civilisations and recent subcultures like rave to create a new contemporary mythology. The "rave artefacts" are made from bronze, cast iron, faience and glass, depicting dancing figures and smiley faces, blurring the lines between ancient and modern. The materials used have a dense history in archaeological contexts. These decorative, non-functional ceremonial pieces are adorned with dancing figures and smiley motifs, hinting at a mythology of a lost civilization. By drawing together the ancient with the recently present, the sculptures attempt to decipher what the archaeology of rave may become, highlighting the misplacement and misinterpretation of the past in archaeological interpretation. Many of these works were incorporated into an installation work ‘Orbital’
